December 6 Workshop: Slow Down with Vivaldi, Bach & Co - Three Slow Movements

Description

In this workshop led by NAVRS Music Director Annette Bauer, we will explore three slow movements by some of the famous Baroque greats: Vivaldi, Bach, and Handel. While these composers were definitely known for fast, complex, and virtuosic passages in their instrumental writing, they also had fantastic compositional sense for creating expansiveness, fluidity, and emotional depth in their slow movements. We will mostly focus on the lead melody in each of the three chosen movements (even though you are welcome to play along any of the accompanying parts for the two pieces that feature recorder arrangements), including some ornamentation options for those of you who would like to venture outside of the written notes. Be prepared to hold your own playing the melody alongside “minus one” versions of these three beautiful compositions. The level of this workshop is best suited for upper intermediate and advanced players, but everyone is welcome to attend. Program: J.S. Bach: Sinfonia (nr. 1) Adagio from Cantata BWV 156 originally scored for oboe and strings arr. for recorders by Bob Tennent G.F.
