Essences of Expression: Exploring Baroque melody, with music by Telemann, Corelli and Händel
Description
This is a NAVRS members only event. When learning new Baroque pieces we naturally tend to focus on the pitches and rhythms of the printed music we see, and of course that's a great place to start! But what about the other information like tempo, metre, form, harmony, 'Affekt' and more; and what about the actual shape of a melodic line? There's so much musical information which can inspire our musical understanding. In this hands-on, playing workshop we'll explore these ideas in sonata movements by Telemann, Corelli and Händel, with the goal of seeing beyond the notes and inspiring you to deepen your interpretive skills. Some bass lines will be provided for you to play along with after the session. NOTE: All sessions begin at 7:00 PM, Eastern. The Zoom link will be live 15 minutes prior.
