June 21 Playing Meeting
Flanders Recorder Duo
Description
William Byrd’s Masterly 6-part Pavan and Galliard In our June NAVRS playing meeting, come join renowned Flanders Recorder Duo (FR2) members Tom Beets and Joris Van Goethem in an exploration of William Byrd’s famous six-part Pavan and Galliard. William Byrd was born around 1539 or 1540 and died on July 4, 1623. He was an English Renaissance composer known for his significant contributions to the development of the English madrigal and for his keyboard and organ music. The pavan is made of three contrapuntal strains, starting with a hint of melancholy and evolving in an elaborate and sublime manner. As is customary, the pavan is paired with a galliard in triple meter. Tom and Joris have recorded all the parts of this Byrd Pavane and Galliard and will take us through our paces so we can understand the music and make a beautiful sound. The Zoom link will be live beginning at 1:30 pm Eastern (12:30 pm Central, 11:30 am Mountain, 10:30 am Pacific). Please join us as we will use the time to chat and use breakout rooms to get to know one another.
